Are Pictures worth a Thousand Searches?

Everyday hundred's of thousands of searches are being made with the keyword "pictures" in it. Whether it be Gothic Fairy Pictures or "pictures of the universe" or whatever, people love looking at, embedding, downloading and printing pictures. The actual cost per click on adwords is relatively low compared to others, but if done correctly a proper pictures page can draw alot of views quickly! Here are a few guidelines to use when making a site, page or post where pictures are the focus.

1. Always use the "Alt" tag on every picture.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to use the alt tag on each and every picture you put on your site! By making sure you use your keyword as the alt tag you are ensuring that the search engines are associating your image with the keyword. Remember that spiders do not "see" images, so they use the alt tag to relay what that image is supposed to be. I have gotten listed in Google Images sometimes in minutes after setting an alt tag! It works and it is essential so do it on every picture! When embedding an image, you should set the title and set the alt within the tag.

2. Wherever possible, include an embed code under the picture leading back to your site.
Make sure to set the title and alt tags in the embed code as well, that way when someone uses the embed code on another site, it counts as a backlink to you with whatever the alt tag is as your anchor text! Pretty cool huh!?

3.Wherever possible, include a description for each picture.
Within the description use your keyword 2 to 3 times. A site with a bunch of thumbnails on it should have a full page for each picture with the
embed code and a brief description in it.

Just by using these few simple steps on a basic picture site, I have been able to earn decent click through rates. I hope you found this article helpful in deciding whether or not to use a keyword with "Picture" in it as a niche site choice.
